Dark Paradise.

Lana Del Rey

I don’t usually do this (though a post about my love for Rihanna is coming up in a week or so), but I wanted to share with all of you (especially those of you emailing me asking how I’m doing) that I have found the PERFECT outlet for any voids in your heart. At least, she’s doing it for me: Lana Del Rey. I have to add, though, that I heard her song “Born To Die” this summer and was unimpressed and passed it off, but I was also working on something else and didn’t really pay attention. She has been on replay all week, and today a friend suggested I listen to “Dark Paradise” and, in a very unimaginable way, I smiled when I did. It’s cruel, so cruel, but sometimes you have to embrace the heartbreak. In all her glory, I give you Lana Del Rey.

You always find those songs that explain your life in the very exact moment you’re living in, but usually only partially. This speaks everything I am feeling, in exact words. I usually don’t buy music from debut artists, and especially not after only listening to two of their songs but this morning, after I heard this, I did. I pre-ordered her album on iTunes and can’t wait to hear all of it. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

All my friends tell me I should move on
I’m lying in the ocean, singing your song
Ahhh, that’s how you sing it
Loving you forever, can’t be wrong
Even though you’re not here, won’t move on
Ahhh, that’s how we played it

And there’s no remedy for memory of faces
Like a melody, it won’t leave my head
Your soul is haunting me and telling me
That everything is fine
But I wish I was dead

Everytime I close my eyes
It’s like a dark paradise
No one compares to you
I’m scared that you won’t be waiting on the other side
Everytime I close my eyes
It’s like a dark paradise
No one compares to you
I’m scared that you won’t be waiting on the other side

All my friends ask me why I stay strong
Tell ‘em when you find true love it lives on
Ahhh, that’s why I stay here

And there’s no remedy for memory of faces
Like a melody, it won’t leave my head
Your soul is haunting me and telling me
That everything is fine
But I wish I was dead

Everytime I close my eyes
It’s like a dark paradise
No one compares to you
I’m scared that you won’t be waiting on the other side
Everytime I close my eyes
It’s like a dark paradise
No one compares to you
But there’s no you, except in my dreams tonight

Oh oh oh, ha ha ha
I don’t wanna wake up from this tonight
Oh oh oh, ha ha ha
I don’t wanna wake up from this tonight

There’s no relief, I see you in my sleep
And everybody’s rushing me, but I can feel you touching me
There’s no release, I feel you in my dreams
Telling me I’m fine

Everytime I close my eyes
It’s like a dark paradise
No one compares to you
I’m scared that you won’t be waiting on the other side
Everytime I close my eyes
It’s like a dark paradise
No one compares to you
But there’s no you, except in my dreams tonight

Oh oh oh, ha ha ha
I don’t wanna wake up from this tonight
Oh oh oh, ha ha ha
I don’t wanna wake up from this tonight

Flawless.

Here is the video of “Born To Die.” Watch it all, until the end. The video itself has this “hipster” feel that is so artistic and beautiful. I am all about Top 40, but this music has been so refreshing to hear. It is perfect. I think someone gave me a gift.  I heard this, replayed it all day, and decided to choreograph to it. I felt so inspired that I finished an entire minute of choreography in three hours, which I have never done before. I can’t wait to show it to my company and hope they like it. Enjoy the video!
